Sleeping disorder seems to dog a vast majority of urban Indian youngsters aged 13-16, says a nationwide survey, leading to nightmares and the tendency to feel sleepy at school.
Thanks to latest gizmos, animated video games, access to Internet and television, more and more teenagers are getting addicted to the tech life, social networking, to the point of sacrificing sleep. Generation Z sure seems to believe in going the tech way to relax. Says Anubhuti Mishra, mother of a 14-year old, ���Kids tend to socialise more and use computers for a great deal of time even well into the night, so obviously they lose sleep.��� Has changing lifestyles or distractions caused by TV or Net resulted in insomnia? Or are parents to be blamed for pushing kids to perform better? Sociologist N Rajaram, MS University feels, ���There is a lot of stress in today���s world. Everyone wants success at an early age.��� Health problems also crop up due to sleep deprivation. Academician Khyati Guha says, ���If you don���t get proper sleep, you tend to feel more irritable. This in turn, doesn���t let you concentrate and affects the academic performance.��� Parents, it���s time to wake up and deal with the situation before it get���s worse for your child.
